I brought up the murder rate because I think City Council has more pressing matters than a smoking ban.
If every single restaurant in Cincinnati decided to go smoke free, I wouldn't care. I just don't want the gubmit to make the decision.

My best friend's mother is undergoing aggressive chemo for lung cancer. She stopped smoking 10 years ago.
The mother was the healthy one, and was supposed to take care of the father. Plans had been made for the death of the unhealthy father, who suffers from asbestosis and a heart that repeatedly fails and only gets jolted back into action by an internal defibrillator.
As a matter of fact, the father should have died twice last night as his defibrillator jolted him twice. Off to the hospital he went.
Of course, the mother was bedridden from the chemo and measures were made to have someone take care of her late last night.

One of the sorriest sights I've ever seen was when I drove a coworker, Shirley, home and got to meet her mother, who suffered from emphysema. The image of an elderly woman - death warmed over - with a walker standing in front of me with a cigarette in her hand is something I'll never forget.
About 10 years later, Shirley died of cigarette-related illness at a relatively early age.

I have a big problem being in a place where the public is invited to which it is exposed on a massive scale to an addictive substance whose negative health affects are widely known. The fact that it is commonly accepted is irrelevant.

We're in agreement on that point, reason.
I'm not arguing that smoking is good, and I'm not saying that non smokers don't have a point.
It just that with all the other problems Cincinnati has, a smoking ban would seemingly be low on the priorities list.
